Sonogram and Glucose Results

I had an ultrasound Tuesday and this is the best picture we got of Parker (28wk4d). You can see this is a profile picture and his hand is by his mouth, so he is either sucking is thumb or waving hello! Everything is normal still. Parker is just over 2 lbs, which is the 59th percentile. This would equivalate to about 8 lbs at birth if he remained at the 59th percentile. Whew, good to know he's average so far!

I also had my 3 hr glucose test while I was there. You have to fast before you go in, then they take the first baseline draw of blood. You then drink the super sugar concoction and have to get your blood taken every hour for 3 hours. Needless to say 4 draws in one day was a little intimidating to me, but the tech was great and made it so I barely noticed he was taking blood. So..... after all that worrying, I PASSED!!! Hooray! I'm so glad I don't have to worry about that anymore!

And the winner is...

We finally made a decision on his name! Kyle and I have gone back and forth through so many names and just kept coming back to this one. We had several "brainstorm" sessions with both friends and family over the past few months. We got some really great suggestions, and some funny ones too (e.g. Dak, Tiberious, Sid Vicious, Theodocious, etc) We also tossed around some family names, but it's hard to do a family name and be fair (unless you choose one from each side). We are really happy with the name we chose and hope you all are as excited to meet Parker as we are!

Third Trimester!

Well, I have officially moved into the third trimester! I can't believe it, time has flown by so fast and I know it will only go faster. I'm still feeling great for the most part. Sleeping is getting more and more uncomfortable (and this lingering cold I have doesn't help...). I bought a body pillow about a week ago, but it hasn't really done the trick. It takes up so much room in the bed and it doesn't do me any good if I roll over. So I am still trying to figure out how exactly to make it work with all the restrictions (no lying on your back or your stomach, and your supposed to be on your left side, but your stomach hangs down, etc...)!

My back is also starting to hurt lately, not too bad, but it's getting more noticeable. Some days are worse than others depending on how much and how I have been sitting.

He is definitely getting bigger, but still has plenty of room to move around in there because he is VERY active. He kicks all the time and particularly likes when I eat something sweet (which I'm pretty sure all babies like). That is probably one of my favorite parts about pregnancy - feeling him move around! It's a little weird when I really think about it, but it's also comforting at the same time. I also love that it's the one way Kyle can really get a little closer to him. It's amazing to just sit and watch the ripples across my tummy!

More to come regarding Kyle's promise of a name announcement...

The Dreaded Glucose Screening...

This morning I had my glucose screening to test for gestational diabetes. I have been worrying about this test so much because I hate getting my blood drawn! So I have been trying to eat low-carb the past couple days (Kyle said I'm cheating, but I just think it's being smart). My doctor told me not to eat any bread, fruit or sugar before coming in for the test, so I just went straight to the doctor and didn't eat any breakfast...

Well, I FAILED :(

My doctor said it is common to fail the screening, however, now I have to go for the 3 hour version of the test. See today wasn't bad because I just drank this sugary stuff and they pricked my finger. Next time, I have to fast then go in and drink the same sugary stuff and get my blood drawn every hour for 3 hours!!! This does not sound like fun, but hopefully the results will come out negative. Most women who fail the screening end up passing the 3 hr test, so everyone keep their fingers crossed!
The test will be in 2 wks and we will get another sonogram on that day too. So we should have some pictures to share afterward!

BIG WIN!

Baby Gordon (name to be announced next week)  was witness to an exciting Thanksgiving tradition yesterday....another Texas Longhorns victory over the lowly Aggies.  We had lots of fun watching with the McCauley clan (mostly Aggies) and Baby Gordon was kicking all the way 'til the end.  As the game came to a close and The Eyes of Texas started playing you could almost make out a Hook 'Em sign bulging out of Maggie's stomach.  Maybe I was imagining things but I just knew he was just as excited as his dad was.  Hope all had a great Thanksgiving and hope to see y'all soon!

Baby's First Thanksgiving Meal

Today we had our Thanksgiving lunch at work... baby got his first taste of turkey, dressing and all the other yummy sides that go along with it! He has been very active this afternoon, so I'm guessing he liked it. I did however manage to spill on my stomach TWICE before lunch! What a mess... I guess I really have to keep an eye on that now that it's in the way :)

In Loving Memory...

I am sad to say, my Grandpa passed away this past Friday, November 6. He was such a loving and kind person and will be greatly missed by our whole family. I am extremely sad that he will never get to see his great grandson and that our little boy will never get to know his great grandfather. We will be sure he knows all about him though and I know Grandpa will be looking down on him as well!

We love you and miss you Grandpa~

Welcome to our Baby Blog!

Kyle and I are so excited to be welcoming our little boy into our family and to be sharing the journey with you! We are a little late on getting this started (considering I'm over 5 months!), but we figured better late than never. We will start with a quick recap of things up to this point:

I was very lucky (knock on wood) to have a relatively easy first trimester! I only had slight nausea and never got sick. My main symptom was the exhaustion. I was always tired - Kyle liked to refer to it as "toothpick eyes" because I couldn't hold them open! Seeing the heartbeat at the first ultrasound was absolutely amazing... we actually found out at that point that I was not quite as far along as we thought (about 6 1/2 wks as opposed to 8 wks). They set a new due date of March 6th. I also developed a super sense of smell during that time - what I like to call my "Spidey Sense". I could smell anything a mile away, which could be good and bad at times!

As the first trimester ended, I kept waiting for my bloat to turn into a bump and it wasn't looking like it was going to happen anytime soon! Any of the few symptoms I had subsided by about 11 or 12 weeks. Things were great - I was feeling like myself again, except for my clothes were getting rather snug. I finally started showing around 16 or 17 weeks. I still think if you didn't know me, I looked like had gained a freshman fifteen beer belly! We were getting so anxious about finding out the sex with only a couple weeks left.

At our 19 week appointment, we got an anatomy ultrasound. The baby was being very difficult and was rather squished up in there, so we were getting worried we wouldn't get a good look at the sex. But he finally moved to where the tech got a good angle and we found out - IT'S A BOY! Unfortunately we are not going to be the ones to break the Gordon curse... Jenn and Justin - the chance is still yours! We felt the first kicks that Sunday after finding out during a Cowboys game (guess he likes football!). It was such an amazing feeling, and I'm so glad he kicked hard enough for Kyle to be able to feel it as well. It was really special.

I am now 23 weeks and still feeling great! I officially look pregnant and have to wear real maternity clothes. I was dreading them, but they aren't actually that bad! I'm still trying to find a good pair of jeans though... We are trying to decide one a name, but it changes every day. We have had many fun name brainstorm sessions with family and friends. Some really strange names have been thrown out there, but we have also gotten some really great ones! We have started looking at baby gear - Babies R Us is a little overwhelming to say the least! I think we are making headway though. I still haven't had any cravings, but I think I feel like I'm allowed to have sweets a little more often than I used to ;)

Now you are up to speed! We will continue to add updates. Make sure you follow us if you want to be notified when new posts are added or check back regularly. I will try to take some pictures and post them for those of you that are not nearby us.
